Viddy is an app for creating and sharing short videos. Watch user videos and add your own to the Viddy community.
Social features and cool added effects made photo app Instagram a big hit, and Viddy is clearly trying the same with video. You have to register for a Viddy account, and can then search for friends via Facebook, Twitter or your contact list. Once that's out of the way, you can get into viewing and sharing video.
Video is currently limited to 15 seconds - just enough for a short message or clip, and short enough to be quickly uploadable. You can use video in your library, or shoot something new. After that, effects can be added, like black and white or 'Vintage'. As with Instagram, these effects can give your video a retro, worn feel that's pretty neat to begin with. This is super simple editing, but it's really easy to do.
You can turn down the audio recording, and replace or overlay it with in-app music. You can't use music from your library, just what's included in Viddy. From there, encoding and uploading is easy and quick, although there is a drop in quality. You can share your videos via Facebook, Twitterand YouTube, while Foursquare and Tumblr are coming soon. A Viddy logo is added to the start of every clip.
Viddy is an interesting proposition, mixing YouTube with Instagram. The app's simple effects and trimming tool is easy to use, so why not see what you can do with 15 seconds?!
